Leadership is not only for adults. At Kandit Standard School, it begins early, and it begins with a vote.
Pupils from Primary to Junior High recently took part in the school’s prefects election, choosing the next leaders of their school community. It was peaceful, orderly and full of pride.
Every Voice Counts
In this election, learners across all levels had a say in who would lead them. Candidates shared why they wanted to serve, pupils listened, and then everyone voted.
For many learners, it was their first experience of a real election. They saw that a leader is not simply appointed. A leader is chosen by the people they will serve.
A Lesson in Peaceful Democracy
What made this election special was how it was done. Learners campaigned respectfully, waited their turn, cast their votes fairly and accepted the results with maturity.
Through this process, pupils learned important lessons:
- Every vote matters, no matter who casts it
- Disagreement can be respectful, and people can support different candidates and still remain friends
- Winning calls for humility, and losing calls for grace
- Leadership means service, not power
These are lessons that will stay with them long after the ballot papers are counted.
Congratulations to the New Prefects
To the newly elected prefects: congratulations! The trust your schoolmates have placed in you is a great honour. Lead with kindness, set a good example, listen to your peers and serve with pride.
To every candidate who stood, whether you won or not: you showed courage. It takes bravery to stand before your school and say, “I am ready to serve.” Keep that spirit alive.
And to every pupil who voted: well done for taking part and respecting the process.
Growing Leaders Beyond the Classroom
At Kandit Standard School, education goes beyond textbooks and exams. By giving pupils the chance to choose their own leaders, the school is nurturing responsible, confident and fair-minded citizens, the kind of people Ghana and the world will need tomorrow.
Today’s prefects are tomorrow’s community leaders, professionals and decision-makers.
